Who We Are

We’ve been around for quite a while, and we love what we do. IAA has been a trusted partner of insurance companies, fleet and rental firms, financing companies, auto dealers and the general public since 1982. Today, our headquarters reside just outside of Chicago in Westchester, Illinois. We’ve built more than 170 corporate-owned auctions across the U.S. and Canada with plans to continue to expand and grow.

John Kett

CEO and President

John W. Kett is CEO and president of IAA, the leading live and live-online salvage auto auction company and a business unit of KAR Auction Services, Inc. (NYSE: KAR). He has helped IAA grow into an international company, nearly tripling its corporate-owned auction facilities with approximately $1.2 billion in annual revenue. IAA has become known in the industry as a leader in technology, analytics and operational performance. John was named President in 2011 and added the CEO role in May of 2014, and has assumed a variety of executive roles since joining the company in 2001. In February 2018, KAR announced that IAA will be spun off into an independent public company with Mr. Kett as the future CEO.  Formerly, Mr. Kett served as Senior VP of Planning and Business Development and CFO. He sits on the national board of directors for SkillsUSA and was awarded the prestigious Pat Dalton Outstanding Achievement Award at the 52nd Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. Additionally, he serves on a committee for CEO Connection. John has held senior financial roles at Central Steel and Wire Co., Safelite Glass Corporation, Newark Electronics and Deloitte LLP. He received a master’s degree from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University.

Tim O'Day

Chief Operating Officer

Tim O’Day is the Chief Operating Officer for Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc. after serving as the company’s Senior Vice President of Finance. He brings nearly 30 years of finance, operations and general management expertise to the IAA team. Tim joined IAA in 2015 as the Senior Vice President of Finance at IAA. Prior to his arrival, he worked for nine years as COO and then CFO for MedSpeed, the leading national healthcare transportation and logistics provider. Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University.

Vance Johnston

Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

Vance Johnston is Chief Financial Officer for Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc., and supports the strategy of delivering improved economic returns for our customers by decreasing cycle times and increasing efficiencies. He brings nearly 30 years of finance, accounting, corporate strategy and treasury experience, as well as a diverse combination of high-growth and public company knowledge. Vance joined IAA in early 2019 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to his arrival, Vance served as Chief Financial Officer for SP Plus Corporation, a provider of professional parking, ground transportation, facility maintenance, security, and event logistics services. At SP Plus, Vance was responsible for the finance, accounting, treasury, investor relations, strategy, corporate development, IT and procurement functions. Vance earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and management from The University of San Diego and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

Sidney Kerley

Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Sidney L. Kerley is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc., where he leads general legal affairs, including SEC compliance and filings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and litigation. His team works in concert with state and federal governments to facilitate legislation and regulation that ensures responsible business conduct and drives healthy expansion of the industry. Sidney received his M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.

Jeanene O'Brien

Jeanene O'Brien

Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Buyer Development

Jeanene O’Brien is Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Buyer Development at Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc., where she leads all marketing efforts, including branding, public relations, advertising, market research, sales-enablement and event programs. She analyzes and reports business and economic trends that impact the salvage industry, aligning IAA’s expertise and leadership. Jeanene is a member of the Women’s Industry Network and holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Wooster (Ohio). She earned her master’s degree in market research and advertising from Loyola University Chicago's Quinlan School of Business.

Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

John D. Krupnik is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc.. He leads IAA’s award-winning business technology team along with managing a hybrid auction platform, all software development, information services functions, computer operations and telecommunications. Under John’s leadership, IAA was recognized by InformationWeek Elite 100 – a list of the top business technology innovators in the U.S. John holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern Michigan University.

Terry Daniels

Managing Director of Impact Auto Auctions

Terry Daniels is the Managing Director of Impact Auto Auctions, Inc., where he leads global market development and salvage management services for the IAA subsidiary in Canada. Terry served as the COO of Impact from 2000 to 2002, and again from 2004 until he took over the Managing Director role in 2006. Prior to joining Impact, he was the IT Manager at ADESA Canada (1998-2000) and later was ADESA’s CIO (2002-2003). Terry has significant experience in a wide variety of IT- and operations-related fields, including mining, retail and the Canadian public sector. A graduate of Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Terry has also served as a board member with the AASC.

Our Marketplace

IAA provides our global customer base the opportunity to buy and sell vehicles at convenience. We conduct weekly auctions in six languages (English, Spanish, French, Polish, Russian and Mandarin Chinese), live and simulcast live on the Internet. On average, over 29,000 vehicles are checked-in, inventoried, stored and set for sale each week. In 2016, IAA sold nearly 2 million vehicles to registered buyers around the globe.

Our live and live-online auctions are at the core of our business, but our capabilities extend much further. For the benefit of our customers, we continue to develop new solutions for the industry every day.

Each year, we continue to grow beyond our domestic operations. By traveling to Central America, Mexico, West Africa and more, our international buyer marketing team is able to connect with local communities and present selling vehicles as a business opportunity. Supporting this growth is our talented Buyer Services team, which collectively speak more than dozen languages.

Our History

Since our founding nearly four decades ago, we've been driving the automotive auction industry. We facilitate the efficient selling and purchasing of vehicles from a variety of resources, including insurance carriers, rental car and fleet lease companies, dealerships and more.





We're proud to be part of an auction family of companies like none other. Spearheaded by KAR Auction Services – a Fortune 1000 company – this family of auction companies provides customers holistic, world-class experience, whether they're buying vehicles or selling them. IAA works particularly closely with fellow auction companies ADESA and HBC Vehicle Services, as well as financing provider AFC. Today, this enterprise boasts nearly 18,000 employees in four countries.
